Denmark's capital Copenhagen is fast emerging as one of Europe's most exciting cities. This year marks the 200th birthday of its most famous son, fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen, and the government is spending US$45 million on celebrations. But look beyond the Little Mermaid - which isn't hard given the waterfront statuette's truly diminutive proportions - and you'll find a hip city, with a burgeoning arts scene, busy cafe culture, beautiful seaside locations and some fantastic shopping.
