(France/UK) What bore! What disappointment! What rubbish! Going by the exaggerated melodrama that is presented onscreen during the two-hour running time of French master Francois Ozon’s first English language film Angel, we’re being rather kind here. You see, Ozon’s latest film is so utterly lacking in emotional depth, it’s almost as good as watching the last godawful period drama that just came out a couple of weeks back—the equally dreary and drab The Other Boleyn Girl. Bah!
France. Category TBA. If you go to a movie about a flying baby, you might expect a fantastical tale punctuated with hilarious comedic capers, but “Ricky” is actually quite a sobering film about a family learning to cope with extraordinary circumstances and ultimately, each other.
