“Mother of Mine” is a war movie without any war scenes. Even better, it is a touching story told from a child’s perspective and with great performances. For those interested in wartime history, the movie also highlights a nearly forgotten slice of World War II, when 70,000 Finnish children all under the age of 10 were sent to Sweden ahead of the Soviet invasion (1939-40).
