(Japan) The Japs are a really twisted bunch, aren’t they? And probably, awfully sadistic too, as proven in Rampo Noir, a collection of vignettes inspired by the works of 20th century Japanese mystery writer Edogawa Ranpo (an anagram on Edgar Allen Poe). Here in four short films, sick sadism triumphs over sense and style, resulting in a fairly uneven collection of works.
