At least half of what makes a meal good is how much you’re laughing as you eat. Sitting stony-silent as another plate of exquisite food is wordlessy plonked in front of you isn’t our idea of a good time. We laughed for our whole meal at Quemo, entertained by the Spanish staff who were alternately efficient, charming, buffoonish—and always hilarious. That’s half of a wonderful meal right there. And the food hardly fell short.

We had our reservations when we slid open the non-descript door to this uber-trendy resto, owned by rockstar couple Matt Abergel and Lindsay Jang—the folks behind hipster-mecca Yardbird.

It’s just overpriced sashimi, we heard; it’s more a bar space than a proper resto—and perhaps the most damning of all, it’s no Yardbird. And while these points might be valid, we still had a fine time at this “modern” Japanese resto.

We ventured into this small noodle shop in North Point, located on a street full of diners (including the famed Wong Kei Tong Shui dessert café just around the corner), on a Friday evening. Ah Yut specializes in “Crossing the Bridge Noodles,” a signature Yunnan rice noodle dish that you can customize by choosing your soup base as well as different levels of spiciness.

During school holidays, Outward Bound also offers five-day overnight camps for kids in two age groups, 8-10 years and 11-13 years, including outdoor trips exploring beaches and streams, swimming, games, outdoor art and nighttime activities. For many children, a week at Outward Bound is a life-changing experience.
