As an avid sports fan growing up, my exposure to rugby was pretty abysmal. In Canada, it ranks shockingly low on our national depth chart for spectator sports, competing for airtime with coverage of billiards trick-shot challenges, competitive five-pin bowling, celebrity hold’em tournaments and even the Lumberjack World Championship.

HK: How did you get started in rugby?
Cado Lee: I started playing when I was in high school in England. When I returned to Hong Kong for my university studies, I managed to get into the Under 20s team and have been training and playing progressively since then.

The 13 tennis courts in Victoria Park are home to international tennis events, such as the annual Watson's Water Challenge and Davis Cup qualifiers. The standard courts all have floodlighting. The center court has a stand that seats 3,611 spectators. It may be more expensive, but it's still very reasonable—and you'll be playing on the same spot as the likes of Michael Chan and Maria Sharapova. That should improve your game.
The eight outdoor tennis courts have floodlighting so they can be used after dark at a slightly higher hourly rate. You can book in person or over the telephone. Bring your Hong Kong ID card or passport. The center also offers squash, table tennis, American pool and snooker.
These outdoor tennis courts are open during daylight only, from 7am until around 6pm, or when it gets dark. They are charged by the hour and can be booked up to 30 days in advance with your Hong Kong ID card. Check the website for a full list of public courts in Hong Kong, along with contact details and the numbers of courts available in each location.
