(USA/ New Zealand) Nine years after the completion of the multiple-Oscar-winning “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, Peter Jackson takes us back to Middle Earth with a prequel based on Tolkien’s fantasy novel. The film follows hobbit Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he ventures on a quest in hopes of retrieving a treasure stolen by the dragon Smaug. Along the way, he is joined by wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) and a group of dwarves led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage). His path also leads him towards a life-changing encounter with the creature Gollum and… you guessed it, the “precious.”
