Art Basel Announces Details for its First Show in Hong Kong in 2013

On June 7, Art Basel released the details of the exhibition sectors for next May’s first edition in Hong Kong, and the newly-formed Art Basel Committee, who will be selecting the galleries participating in the show.

Founded in 1970 in Basel, Art Basel is one of the most prestigious annual art shows worldwide for modern and contemporary works, featuring over 300 leading galleries from Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Art Basel in Miami Beach, launched in 2002, presents over 260 galleries attracting a record of 50,000 visitors in 2011.

For the upcoming opening of the Hong Kong edition of Art Basel, more than 250 leading galleries with over 2,000 artists will be featured, tracing 12 decades of art history across its four sectors: Galleries, Insights, Discoveries, and Encounters. The exhibitor application for the first Art Basel edition in Hong Kong will be open until September 10, 2012, and the participating galleries will be announced in January 2013. The newly formed Art Basel Committee, Hong Kong, is composed of renowned international gallerists, including Emi Eu, Shireen Gandhy, Suzie Kim, Maho Kubota, and more.

The Art Basel show in Hong Kong will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) on May 23-26, 2013.
