Founded in 2004, Shek O Challenge is an annual event started by Open Water Energy in order to raise awareness of the open water swimming and racing culture, and to encourage the maintenance of clean beaches. On the day of the challenge, participants will have the opportunity to give a donation to support WWF and Ocean Recovery Alliance for their service with the ocean.

The event welcomes people of all ages and abilities to the 2.2 km open water swim from Big Wave Bay to Back Beach, Rocky Bay. This year, a new category has opened for those who want to use fins. Activities, such as beach sprints, volleyball, and Frisbee will also be available for those who prefer to stay dry on land. BBQ and DJs will be at the finish line to cheer the racers on.

Registration can be done online or on the day of, and it costs $300 per person. Swimmers are encouraged to arrive by 12pm at Big Wave Bay.
