HK Magazine: You look incredibly toned and healthy. How long have you been doing Pilates?
Sharron Telling:
I was one of Flex’s first clients when it opened in January 2005, which means I’ve been doing it for about one and a half years.

HK: What made you start?
ST:
I heard about (director and instructor) Heather’s amazing reputation via the jungle drums and when I ran into her in Repulse Bay I just hijacked her.

HK: What’s the difference between yoga and Pilates?
ST:
They both focus on using the breath as a tool and on the mind-body connection. I think yoga focuses more on holding a pose, whereas Pilates is more about getting into the pose correctly. This is why there tend to be more injuries during yoga than Pilates. Also, Pilates is more for those recovering from sports injuries because it builds muscle strength.

HK: As well as the physical results, what other changes do you feel?
ST:
I have become much more aware of my body. It has also given me more stability, balance and coordination. I sleep better, and I breathe easier.

HK: Who would you recommend Pilates to?
ST:
Everybody should be doing this - all ages, all sizes and all nationalities. This is what every girl should have!

Telling takes classes at Flex Pilates and Yoga Studio, 1/F Woodleigh House, 80 Stanley Village Rd., Stanley, www.flexhk.com
