Thinning Hair

Hair cutting it a little fine these days? Image and beauty consultant Douglas Lillico shares some advice on how to deal with thinning hair.

Does it matter what kind of shampoos you use on thinning hair?
Yes, the shampoo you use does matter. The best kinds are professional brands that are organically based and acidic-balanced.

I hear that certain bacteria can make your hair thinner—is this true? What’s the best way to combat the problem?
There is a mild fungus that can thin your hair, and the best way to treat it is to use Nizoral, a shampoo specially made to deal with this problem.

What should you avoid doing to fine or thinning hair?
You should avoid wearing hats and wigs, avoid using petroleum-based hair products, and cut down on drinking alcohol and caffeine.

What kinds of hairstyles are best suited to this type of hair?
Blunt-shaped hairstyles would be the best.

Any other general-care tips for thinning hair?
There are a lot of reasons for thinning hair, including climate change, change of diet, weight loss, stress and a lack of protein. The most important thing for people with thinning hair is to have a healthy diet: eat lots of protein, drink less alcohol and caffeine, and use organically based hair products.
