This cozy little Dutch restaurant is tucked away near enough to the escalator to be convenient but far enough from the main streets to be a peaceful retreat from the Soho revelry. The wooden interior and open kitchen create a cozy, comfortable ambience matched well by the quality of the food and service. Book the private room for a large group of friends and celebrate New Year’s comfortably and (relatively) quietly.
Open Mon-Fri 6pm-11pm, Sat/Sun 11am-11pm. 17 Shelley St., Soho, 2838-9352.
Causeway Bay will no doubt be a hub of madness, but not in this Italian restaurant-bar on the quieter side of the district. This New Year’s, Habitu offers a wine buffet where customers can choose from three reds and five whites. The terrace is a great place to enjoy a festive drink and the crisp air of year-end. Open daily noon-midnight.
3/F, Lee Gardens Two, 28 Yun Ping Rd., Causeway Bay, 2898-3919.
Super-chic and super-stylish, this bar provides the ultimate setting for a classy countdown, or just an elegant night out. Light, organic fare is a specialty and New Year’s Eve features a dinner-drinks night for the auspicious price of $888. Otherwise, $488 will get you live entertainment and two standard drinks. Open daily 7am-2am.
G/F, The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, 15 Queen’s Rd., Central, 2132-0077.
If you want out of the hustle and bustle of the city in party mode, bus it to Stanley for a more chilled out celebration. The Bayside Brasserie offers a relaxed alternative for wining and dining this New Year’s, and the area will even be quiet enough for a pleasant digestive stroll afterwards. Open daily noon-11pm.
25 Stanley Market Road, Stanley, 2899-0818.
