The buzz: Novotel Century has redone its bar and turned it into a venue that does so much more than just serve nightcaps to hotel guests.
The décor: Despite its oddly elongated shape, AK’s is comfortable and laid-back, with high ceilings and full-length windows on one side. The bar sits in the middle, and is illuminated in the evenings.
The drinks: Your usual bar staples and an extensive wine list. The bar has also just launched a wine club; any Hong Kong resident can sign up for free and enjoy a discount when taking home a bottle or two from the hotel’s selected wine list. Members can also join wine tastings or wine classes.
The food: Apart from the usual bar snacks and finger food, anyone spending more than $128 on drinks at the bar from 6-8pm can enjoy a free appetizer buffet. The selection includes Parma ham, cheese, Mediterranean dips, breads and snacks.
The crowd: Mostly hotel guests and the Wan Chai crowd—but not your usual crowd from The Bridge. We’re talking about those working and living in Wan Chai who’d like a quiet drink or two before heading home.
The music: Light music is played throughout the day, but what really dominates the bar is the five flat-screen TVs showing the latest sporting events.
Why you’ll come back: The environment, the huge TVs and the free food.
