This yum cha destination’s name seems a tad redundant. But once you’ve partaken in Hong Kong’s quintessential brunchtime ritual there, you just may want to chant its name over and over again in awe.

Located on a nondescript street off of bustling Hennessy Road, this narrow, two-story restaurant is easy to miss. But once you make your way inside, DimDimSum Dim Sum Specialty Store (heretofore referred to as DDS) serves up steamer after steamer of excellently executed staples as well as traditional recipes with a modern twist.

The beef meatballs, for example, are flavored with a smidge of sun-dried tangerine peel; the moist brown sponge cake’s top is sprinkled with muscovado sugar; and one type of cheung fun has tender Yunnan mushrooms encased within the rice rolls. The classics are done well here, too, with the har gow, the shrimp and seasonal vegetable dumplings and the turnip cake eliciting “oohs,” “aahs” and “yums” from our table—a table that, let’s face it, has cumulatively consumed hundreds upon hundreds of dim sum meals.

So yeah, we’d say we’re tough critics. As for DDS, best of all, it’s super cheap, meaning you can stuff your face for under $100 a head and then head home to take a well-deserved, food coma-induced afternoon nap.
