This recently revamped sports bar-turned-tapas bar is one of those easy-to-miss places in SoHo. It’s a cozy enough venue, with comfy high chairs, a simple bar and subtle touches—but then again, so are a lot of the places around here, and Latitude 22 is no different.

Good thing it’s got the food all figured out—cuz that’s what’s going to keep us coming back. The menu here is simply tapas: crostinis, cured meats, sausages, cheese, seafood, flatbreads, hot and cold dishes… there’s a good round-up that pretty much covers all dietary preferences. The Catalonian herb flatbreads set the tone for our meal: incredibly fragrant yet subtle, they were good to nibble on alone or paired with stronger condiments.

We dunked ours into an Aurora sauce-covered dish of pan-fried chorizo with wild mushrooms. Something about the creamy mixture and the zestiness of the tomatoes drove us wild, making us declare it the dish of the night. We also really appreciated the buttery slices of Mahon cow’s milk cheese and thin, savory aged Emiliano ham that came before the hot dishes. The chili garlic marinated prawns that came with heads and shells intact were another delightful surprise, although we found the side of dill dip a bit unnecessary.

The portions were generous and we really felt the heart and soul behind each dish, generated and sustained by the husband-and-wife owners who both ran the kitchen and managed the tables. Let’s hope Latitude is here to stay.
