Up from the ashes of Dakota Prime rises this stylish new steak joint, Opus Grill. Lovers of filet mignon and short rib can sink their teeth into anything from a monster 35oz porterhouse to a New York strip dry-aged for 40 days. Opus Grill is the only restaurant in Hong Kong serving steaks from Californian boutique supplier Bryan Flannery, so we decided to share his 16oz private reserve rib eye (great value and still left us totally stuffed). From our first bite we knew this was the type of steak we’d be dreaming about for months after. As we chewed each tender chunk, a deep meaty flavor flooded our mouth along with the rich beef juices. This was truly a prime cut of meat and expertly cooked to boot. Although smitten by our steak main, we were equally in awe of our prawn cocktail starter, which included five succulent prawns with a delicious mix-and-match selection of tangy sauces and chunky seasonings. Likewise our brandy raisin semi-freddo dessert with cashew nougatine, salted butter crust and toffee sauce was surprisingly light and refreshing. The wine list is actually more of an encyclopedia with 650 different labels and prices starting from around $500. Ask the friendly sommelier for the best wine to complement your meal. Artwork by Ida & Javelle showing tiny people balanced on fork prongs and bottle tops adds a playful dimension to an otherwise conventionally stylish interior. But while nothing leaps out as being remarkable, the restaurant manages to be cozy and comfortable while still radiating a chic twinkle.
