Ferran Adria's Protege to Open a New Restaurant in May

Ferran Adria might’ve closed his world-famous restaurant last summer, but you’ll be pleased to hear that protege Paco Roncero will be opening a restaurant here in our own fair city this May.

View 62 (62/F, Hopewell Centre, 183 Queen’s Rd. East, Wan Chai) will be a revolving restaurant atop Hopewell Centre. The views will be spectacular, natch, but the cuisine will probably be even more so—if Roncero’s reputation is anything to go by. His other credits include heading the Casino de Madrid and Estado Puro gastro bar in his home country.

The whole project still sounds a bit vague at this point, although it’s worth noting that Ricky Hung (who’s done Isola and The Press Room) is in charge of the interiors. The PRs are using terms like nouvelle cuisine and evolutionary culinary techniques to describe Roncero’s method—which is as good as saying, well... not much!

Let’s hope we’ll be seeing some true innovation at View 62 and not just more nitrogen ice cream and test tube dishes that—thanks to the likes of Adria and Roncero—are replicated in establishments across the world and are frankly a bit “been there, done that.”
