Hollywood Road is hot, hot, hot (tamale) at the mo, with a beautiful new two-story resto by the name of Heirloom (226 Hollywood Rd., Sheung Wan, 2547-8008, www.heirloomhk.com) that offers, among other things, the ridiculously rare Taco.

Heirloom’s not a Mexican establishment per se—there’s a comprehensive selection of salads, sandwiches and western mains on the menu, too—but it was the excited whispers about the tacos that first reached my happy ears.

On Heirloom’s opening day, I scrambled down to the already busy venue to get the dirt and had a quick chat with co-owner Ashton, who runs the place with partner Vivian (owner of the delightful Corner Kitchen on Po Hing Fong). Both ladies are professional chefs who thought that Sheung Wan would benefit from another high-quality F&B establishment. And they are absolutely right.

So far, I’ve tried their black bean grilled chicken sandwich, pork and fish tacos, chicken avocado Balinese salad, a carrot cupcake and an old campfire favorite, the s’more (a FIRST in the city, I believe, though the traditional graham crackers were replaced with a kind of soft cookie instead).

The verdict so far: delish! Prices are higher than I expected, to be honest. But hey, if there’s demand—why not, right? I do hope the lunch menu can be toned down a bit, though, so we poor journos at the office can turn it into a regular lunch spot.
