Less than a month after El Bulli closed its world-famous doors, the Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong (in collaboration with the Spanish Tourist Office) has managed to lure the much-sought-after Ferran Adria to our city to conduct a series of workshops—for a hefty fee, of course. From August 26 to 28, at $1,200 a pop, you get to watch either a video of “One Day at El Bulli” (session one) or the “Present & Future of El Bulli” (session two), and hear the man himself speak in a Q&A session afterwards. It’s $2,200 if you attend both sessions. Sounds kinda like a glorified press conference to me, but I’ll bet my money that there’ll be more than enough takers. Oh, and for $4,800 plus 10 percent, you get to enjoy an 11-course dinner cooked by Adria’s protege Paco Roncero (pictured) at the Ritz’s Italian establishment, Tosca. Now that’s a crapload of money to spend, and I’m still debating whether it’s worth the splurge (I’m sure Roncero’s skills are amazing, but he’s not Adria at the end of the day). In the meantime, feel free to call 2263-2270 for details and reservations.
