The buzz: Lyndhurst Terrace’s nightlife scene is really taking off, with new bars and clubs mushrooming around the Wellington Street end. Gala’s, one of the newest additions to the area, claims to be on the ground floor; but the entrance is actually sneakily tucked away above a car park. It might not be great for luring in street traffic, but perhaps that's part of the appeal for a private members' club.
Using state-of-the-art LED technology and dark, dramatic colors, the 3,500-square-foot space was designed to resemble a theater space. Reflective accents are dotted around the interior, while an enlarged Rolls Royce hood ornament is positioned by bottles of Dom Perignon and acts as a centerpiece for the place.
Hero has opened a third outlet, right where Café Punta del Cielo used to be. This chilled-out sandwich shop started its humble but successful beginnings in Tai Kok Tsui and has another branch in Sheung Wan at the Grand Millennium Plaza. Everything from rib-eye steaks to tuna salad to frankfurters to roasted pork chops are offered in a sandwich format, stuffed between two sub-style buns. Reasonably priced salads (all around $40 each) in a variety of flavors and combos are also offered, as well as baked potatoes and fries.
A newly opened bar by Nova Concepts. The bar is connected to fellow new bar Loft upstairs, and patrons are free to visit both upon entry.
The sister bar to Nova downstairs, Loft is a lounge bar with chilled-out vibes. Pool tables are available.
Don’t be fooled by its name—Canton Kitchen is a more fusion-y Chinese resto than most, and Shanghai-style tofu is just as likely to be on the menu as lobster topped with truffles from Perigord.
To be honest, we don’t know how this newly opened establishment will be able to sustain itself—not only is it dirt cheap (by Central standards), it also serves up some solid, tasty fare.
