(USA) The Runaways is not so much a biopic as it is a haze of sex, drugs and, occasionally, music. It’s 1975; Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) is a shag-haired punk wannabe desperate to play the guitar despite being utterly inept at it. By chance, she meets the over-the-top record producer Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon) and entices him with her idea of forming an all-girl rock band called The Runaways. The band comes together, but there’s something missing—a blonde bombshell. Enter Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning), a talentless wallflower.
