Move Over Shenzhen

Forget Shenzhen or Bangkok, Macau is hard at work transforming itself into the new playground for thrill-seeking Hongkongers. It used to be that if you wanted a wild weekend, you would have to head north or fly off to Thailand, but now our sister SAR is very much a viable option, and not just for gamblers either. And really, what better place than Macau, which can offer just as much fun as other destinations but without the hassle of mainland madness or long-distance travel?

As far as the non-gambling entertainment goes, Macau Stag (www.macaustag.com) is a new company organizing stag nights in Macau. The typical “night out” starts during the day with a barbecue lunch at the Hard Rock Hotel, followed by a dip at the resort’s pool (which features a swim-up bar), then go-karting, bungee-jumping off Macau tower, a private booth at the local Cigar Bar, a Brazilian buffet dinner, and finally, entrance to two nightclubs with VIP service. “Many of our groups have little or no interest in gambling, yet Macau is still their destination,” says Jonathan Stewart, Macau Stag’s managing director.

If the above activities don’t completely do it for you, there’s plenty more to tickle your pickle. A quick click on www.macau.com reveals delights such as the “Crazy Happy Show,” which features dancers from South America and Europe, and is billed as being “strictly for the more adventurous adults to appreciate.” Hmm... Macau’s very own take on happy endings and ladyboys, perhaps?
